I was chosen to create a piece inspired by an item from the Hunt's collection. I decided to focus on an ancient Roman Dodecahedron. The purpose of these intriguing bronze artifacts, dating from the 1st to the 4th centuries, continues to be a mystery.

Townlands 106 is an impactful contemporary sculpture that captures the energy of the community while celebrating the history of its location. 

The sculpture is a contemporary reinterpretation of Irelands ancient standing stones.  Standing stones were places where communities gathered to celebrate social events and mark lunar festivals. 

Ireland is patchwork of over 60,000 individual townlands.  These Townlands create a powerful sense of place and history for the population of Ireland.  Each townland is a unique community. 

The sculpture is Located in the Townland of Holywoodrath at Tyrrelstown, Dublin 15.  Hollywoodrath is one of the 106 townlands within the Barony of Castleknock that historically covered much of the Dublin 15 Area.

 

The sculpture continues 106 individual  coloured recessed panels that come together to create a historical narrative.
